Wireless Telegraphic Station.

reference to your letter of 21st. February, I have now

to advise you that Mr. Watts has carefully studied the contour of Hongkong and after visiting certain localities, selects sites on the Eastern extremity of the Island near D'Aguilar as being the most suitable for a commercial station, from a Wireless point of view, these sites being marked on accompanying tracing. An or- -dinary land wire would be used to connect the station with the

city.

As your Committee recommend a station having a day range of 850 miles, I assume that it is intended to include Shanghai and this distance being entirely overland necessitates the employment

of greater power than would otherwise be the case. Mr. Watts

therefore suggests the instalment of a 30 K.W. Station which would

have a guaranteed day range of 850 Nautical Miles and a guaranteed

night range of 1,000-1,300 Nautical Miles, with a maximum range

under special conditions considerably in excess of above figures.

I have pleasure in enclosing herewith an estimate and brief

particulars of the station suggested which I recommend for His

Excellency the Governor's consideration with reserve, pending con-

-firmation, complete specifications and details from the Marconi

Company which I trust Messrs. Jardine, Matheson & Co., Id. will

be able to lay before you in the course of the next few weeks.

It might be of interest to you to know that the Marconi Co.

are now completing the erection of three similar stations to the

order of the Indian Government, at Calcutta, Allahabad and Delhi

so are in a peculiarly good position regarding data referring to this type of station situated in similar latitudes.
